Voluntary Services
Volunteer services at the Studentenwerk
The Studentenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim has established, in its areas of social purpose, places for the federal volunteer service.
The children’s day care centres in Tübingen and Reutlingen also offer the opportunity of a voluntary social service year.
In our children’s day care centres in Tübingen, Reutlingen and Hohenheim where students’ children from 0 to 6 years get cared for, volunteers do caretaker and household work (preparation of breakfast, snacks, serving lunch and cleaning). They also support the teachers in their work with the children. For example volunteers help out during lunch, involve themselves in games or in preparations for celebrations.
Voluntary service in the field of social services
The volunteers mainly work together with the counseling centre for disabled and chronically ill students at the University of Tuebingen. They assist the students with their acadamic work which they are not able to do or only in a restricted way.
The tasks include general office work, in particular literature search and retrieval, and the disabled-friendly processing on the computer. In their academic everyday life, volunteers accompany the students to their lectures or the library and support them in finding accommodation as well as help them with their daily student life. Volunteers assist in the lectures or the library and assist in finding accommodation and daily errands such as shopping for equipment and office supplies, signing leases, visiting doctors or helping them with errands.
Voluntary service in student residences
In our Student Residence Department, volunteers work in the janitorial and technical service sector. Their responsibilities include techniqual activities such as small repairs and maintenance work (painting, changing light bulbs, cleaning, etc..), work on the green area of the student residences, janitor assistance when students move in or out, advising and supervising of the students as well as assistance of preparation of various events and meetings in the student residences.
Volunteer service in a cafeteria
In our cafeterias in Tübingen and Reutlingen volunteers work as houshold and kitchen assistance and are mainly in charge of household work in a commercial kitchen. They assist with the preparation and distribution of food, the cleaning of dishes or as storemen for food deliveries. They are also employed as drivers for food delivery and the postal service.
