The Studentenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim offers a ServicePaket for students from other countries. It includes the first important steps necessary to prepare for your stay in Tübingen. It saves you a lot of organisational work, helps you get past bureaucratic obstacles and gives you an overview of your basic costs during your time of study in Tübingen.


The two most important benefits of the ServicePaket: (1) A furnished room in a student residence hall will be reserved for you, starting at the beginning of the semester, available from 1.3., respectively 1.9., according to your choice (outside of the usual acceptance process with the waiting list). (2) You will receive intensive support from student tutors. The ServicePaket is intended to help you get started; therefore, you can only make use of it for one semester (6 months).


  • To be eligible for the ServicePaket, you must be accepted for study at Eberhard-Karls-Universität Tübingen.
  • The application for the summer semester must be received by the Studentenwerk at the latest by 31. January, for the winter semester at the latest by 31. July.
  • Applications that arrive later will be considered only when there are still rooms available. Application processing and room assignments will be done in the order the applications are received.
There is no legal claim to receive a ServicePaket. The service is limited and depends on the number of rooms available for students. A binding room reservation exists first when a ServicePaket contract is closed and the agreed-upon payment is received by the Studentenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim by the date it is due.

Health Insurance


All students at German institutions of higher education must prove at the time of matriculation that they have health and nursing care insurance. This proof can come from a homeland-based insurance company which Germany recognises or through the closing of a similar insurance contract with an appropriate German insurance company.
The current costs of German health and nursing care insurance are 63,38 € per month(upper 23 years without children 64,66 €).
In return for this payment you receive all the benefits of the statutory health insurance fund, with the exception of a sickness allowance. Other conditions apply for students who are 30 years or older or in the 15th or later semester of their subject. These conditions can be explained upon request.
When wished, we can book the necessary health and nursing care insurance for you as part of the ServicePaket. The additional charge per semester is 380,28 € (or 387,96 €).
Students from EU-Memberstates who have an "European Health Insurance Card (EHIC)" from their health insurance company are co-insured in Germany at no cost and are exempt from the obligation to insure in Germany. Private health insurance plans from other countries can be likewise recognised as insurance protection in Germany. In these cases however, it is advisable to test the insurance benefits in advance.

Social Fee 63,50 €
Every student must pay a social fee to the Studentenwerk every semester. The benefit of the social fees is the claim to free social, legal, and psychotherapeutic counseling. Included in the social fee of 63,50 € is a solidarity fee in the amount of 22,50 €, which helps finance the Semesterticket. The Semesterticket itself currently costs an additional 55,40 €. It allows the free and unlimited use of all forms of public transportation in four districts, inclusive of Tübingen, and is valid for 6 months.

Concluding of a health and nursing care insurance contract in advance 380,28 € (or 387,96 €).
It is also possible to arrange the health and nursing care insurance after arrival.
