Open PBS consultation hours now also available in Hohenheim

Advice & Social
Beratungsgespräch in der PBS

Since June 2023, the Studierendenwerk has been offering an open consultation hour at the Psychotherapeutic Counseling Center in Tübingen. This service allows for a psychotherapeutic consultation of up to 25 minutes without prior registration. The offer has been very popular among students. Students in Hohenheim can now also benefit from this low-threshold and fast support.

The open consultation hour in Hohenheim will start on January 13, 2026, and will take place on Tuesdays from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Please arrive at the counseling center during the 15 minutes before the start (12:45–1:00 p.m.) and briefly register with the counselor. This helps with organizing the consultation hour on the respective day.

Two consultation slots of up to 25 minutes each are available per session. If more than two students attend, additional participants unfortunately cannot be accommodated on that day.

Construction of student dormitory begins in Hohenheim

Housing
Symbolic ground-breaking ceremony at the Fruwirthstraße construction site II

Stuttgart-Hohenheim. With a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony, the Tübingen-Hohenheim Student Union, the University of Hohenheim, and the Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts celebrated the start of construction on the new residential complex at Fruwirthstraße 15–19. Here, 126 residential units for students of the University of Hohenheim are being built.

Affordable housing is in short supply at many university locations – and the University of Hohenheim is no exception. The new building will provide noticeable relief in this tense situation: the current stock of 1,187 residential units at the Hohenheim location will grow to a total of 1,313 places with the new project.

“We know how urgently students in Hohenheim need affordable housing – almost 1,800 applications last year speak for themselves. We are all the happier that we can finally realise the project after pandemic-related delays and species protection investigations,” explained Edith Hein, Managing Director of the Tübingen-Hohenheim Student Services Association, at today’s ground-breaking ceremony.

Prof. Dr. Christoph Schneider, Rector of the University of Hohenheim, was also delighted that construction work has begun: ‘Affordable housing is an important criterion for young people when deciding whether and where to study. We are in competition in this regard, also internationally. The construction of student residences is therefore an important investment in the future, in the training of skilled workers and in the future economic strength of the state.’

Dr Hans J. Reiter, Ministerial Director at the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, also attended the ceremony. The project is being funded as part of the ‘Junges Wohnen BW’ programme, which supports the creation of additional affordable housing for trainees and students. “The groundbreaking ceremony for the new hall of residence shows that the Student Housing Support Programme, as part of the federal-state Young Living Programme, is having an immediate impact on the ground. The state government is thus creating much-needed housing for students in Baden-Württemberg and providing concrete support to the Tübingen-Hohenheim Student Services Organisation as the builder of this hall of residence. A good supply of student housing is an important factor in the attractiveness of Baden-Württemberg as a university location,” said Dr Hans J. Reiter.
Other guests included representatives of the university, the university building authority, the student body and the student services organisation.

The plans for the new residential complex date back to an architectural competition in 2019. The Cologne-based firm barkowsky wahrer architekten GbR won the competition together with fischer heumann landschaftsarchitekten PartG mbB from Munich. Three buildings are being constructed – one four-storey and two three-storey buildings – with a total of 126 residential units, half of which are designed as single apartments and half as shared flats. The compact new building blends into a 3,700 m² hillside plot and is accessed via Fruwirthstraße to the south.

Completion of the residential complex, with an investment volume of around €13.9 million, is planned for mid-2027.

Brief information about the project:

• The ‘Student accommodation at Fruwirthstraße 15-19’ construction project comprises the new construction of one four-storey and two three-storey residential buildings for students.
• The residential complex offers space for a total of 126 students.
• The three buildings contain 61 single apartments, 2 wheelchair-accessible apartments, 7 four-person shared flats and 7 five-person shared flats.
• The single apartments and shared flats are each equipped with a (shared) kitchen and sanitary facilities (shower, washbasin, WC). All rooms are furnished and equipped with media connections.

Renovation of Schwerzstrasse 2 and 3 hall of residence completed

Housing

Hinweis

There are currently still many rooms available in the newly renovated hall of residence! If you are interested, simply send a short e-mail to our hall of residence administration in Hohenheim (info [dot] hoh [at] sw-tuebingen-hohenheim [dot] de). You can also move in at short notice during the current summer semester.

Over the past 11 months, the Studierendenwerk has extensively renovated the student hall of residence at Schwerzstr. 2 in Stuttgart-Hohenheim. Since 1 April, the building can finally be rented out to students again.

The refurbishment included a complete modernisation of the interior and the refurnishing of all rooms. A new heat pump was also installed to ensure an efficient and sustainable energy supply. Another improvement concerns the size of the shared flats: Previously, 18 students lived together on one floor here, but smaller groups have now been formed to offer residents more privacy and comfort.

Interested students can only live together in shared flats here; there are no furnished individual flats. The average rent is between 295 and 325 euros, depending on the size of the room.
