Help when in financial trouble

Short-term loans are primarily relevant for students, who have temporarily fallen into hard financial times through none of their own fault. The Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim can help quickly and without any fuss in these cases. The loans are not meant to enable students to purchase items and are granted without any interest being charged.

Two types of loans

EUR 400

The loan is provided without any guarantees and without an administration fee.
The repayment of the loan takes place by direct debit. The loan must have been repaid within twelve months. That is to say, repayment must take place four months after the disbursement with minimum instalments of EUR 50. Repayment may also take place in the form of a lump sum or larger instalments.

EUR 401 – 1,200

A certified statement of guarantee is required for this loan (see below).
A one-off administration fee is also charged when the money is disbursed. Four percent of the total loan over EUR 400 is retained. If the loan amounts to EUR 500, four percent of EUR 100 (EUR 500 – EUR 400) is charged as an administration fee, for example EUR 4.
The repayment of the loan takes place by direct debit. The loan must have been repaid within 24 months. That is to say, repayment must take place one year after the disbursement with minimum instalments of EUR 100. Repayment may also take place in the form of a lump sum or larger instalments.

Applying and disbursement

Any enrolled students at the universities assigned to the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim are entitled to apply for this loan.

An application for a loan should be submitted on the relevant form to the Studierendenwerk, Amt für Ausbildungsförderung, Listplatz 1, 72764 Reutlingen (see Contact details).

The loan is disbursed by bank transfer.

Security

As the Studierendenwerk provides security to the savings bank, a counter-guarantee from a German citizen must be provided to guarantee the loan repayment; this person may not be older than 65. Foreign guarantors are only recognised if they have their permanent place of residence in the Federal Republic of Germany.
The security must be submitted in a formal declaration – and the guarantor’s signature must be verified by a seal-bearing authority or by the person processing the case at the Studierendenwerk. Seal-bearing authorities are notaries public or local authority, state or federal offices. Any other verification of signatures will not be recognised.
Each guarantor must have a regular income, which at least corresponds to the amount that matches the allowances set in Section 25 of the §25 BAföG Act at the time when the application is made. Evidence of this must be submitted with the application for the loan (salary slips or notification of income tax).

The following cannot act as guarantors:

Students
The husband or wife of the applicant
Those with debts with the loan office
