Rent adjustment as of 01 October 2024
The Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim will increase rents for dormitories by an average of 5% from 1 October 2024. This is the first rent increase in over four years. The adjustment will only apply to new contracts; existing tenants will not be affected.
Edith Hein, Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk, explains: “We are aware of the financial burden on many students. For this reason, we have not increased rents in recent years. The partly massive price increases for energy and cleaning, among other things, make a moderate increase unavoidable”. She adds: “Our aim is still to offer socially acceptable housing for students. We remain by far the most affordable landlord for students.”
Elsewhere, however, the Studierendenwerk is keeping prices stable. In the winter semester 2024/2025, the semester fee will remain comparatively low at around €56. On average across Germany, students have to pay €78 as a student union fee. Many student unions in Germany have recently raised their fees significantly.
