Education and participation package
Benefits from the education and participation package are usually cash or non-cash benefits (in the form of vouchers). You receive them from your city or municipality. Sometimes, for example, the costs for tutoring are covered or the membership fee for the sports club is subsidised.
- Students from the district of Tübingen can apply for the BuT at the Landratsamt, Abteilung Soziales – Bildung und Teilhabe.
- There are two contact points for students from Stuttgart. Students who receive ALG II, Sozialgeld, Wohngeld or Kinderzuschlag should contact the Jobcenter Stuttgart. Students who receive Sozialhilfe (social assistance) or benefits under the Asylbewerberleistungsgesetz (Asylum Seekers’ Benefits Act) apply to the Sozialamt (Social Welfare Office) of the city of Stuttgart.
- There are also various contact points for students in Reutlingen. Students who receive benefits according to SGB II should contact the Jobcenter Reutlingen. Students receiving Wohngeld (housing allowance) and/or Kinderzuschlag (child supplement) as well as benefits according to SGB XII and living in the Reutlingen city area should contact the city of Reutlingen directly. Reutlingen students outside the city area of Reutlingen who receive Wohngeld (through the district of Reutlingen or the city of Metzingen) as well as Kindergeldbezug and/or Kinderzuschlag through the Familienkasse and place of residence should contact the Landratsamt Reutlingen.
Bonuscard
Many cities and municipalities offer bonus cards or voucher booklets for people on low incomes. Here is an overview:
- Anyone who lives in the district of Tübingen and receives social benefits can apply for the KreisBonusCard at the district administration office. Holders can take advantage of discounts at many institutions, associations and organisations.
- With the Bonuscard + Kultur, Stuttgart students receive numerous benefits, for example free admission to cultural events, reduced monthly tickets for public transport or fee waivers for day-care centres.
- The City of Stuttgart’s FamilienCard is aimed at children and young people and is intended to enable them to take part in a wide range of leisure and educational activities in Stuttgart at a reduced rate.
- For students in Reutlingen there is the Reutlinger Gutscheinheft.
Economic youth welfare
This term refers to financial youth welfare benefits that are income-dependent and are applied for at the following offices.
- For students in the district of Tübingen, the Landratsamt Tübingen is responsible.
- For Stuttgart students, the counselling centres of the Jugendamtes (Youth Welfare Office) of the city of Stuttgart.
- Students in Reutlingen can apply to the Landratsamt Reutlingen.
Child benefit and child supplement
Kindergeld can be applied for in writing or online at the Familienkasse (family benefits office) of the Bundesagentur für Arbeit (Federal Employment Agency).
If the income is not sufficient, families can receive the so-called child supplement in addition to child benefit. The application must be submitted separately to the Familienkasse (family benefits office).
Parental allowance
Parental allowance is an income-related family benefit designed to provide financial support for families after the birth of a child.
For BAföG recipients, the minimum amount of parental allowance of 300 euros is not taken into account. This is an ADDITIONAL payment.
