Moderate adjustment of refectory prices for summer semester 2024
For the summer semester 2024, the Studierendenwerk is making a moderate adjustment to meal prices in the refectories for the first time in over four years. For students, the price for the daily menu will increase by 20 cents from €3.25 to €3.45 (the guest price for university employees and external visitors will increase from €6.90 to €7.10). This is the first price adjustment since January 2020.
The reason for the necessary price changes are the massive cost increases in the procurement of goods and energy prices since 2020. “We did not take this step lightly,” explains Edith Hein, Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk, “especially as many students are in a tight financial situation. However, the current price adjustment is necessary so that we can continue to ensure the good quality level of our meals. At the same time, it remains our aim to source products from local suppliers in the region – this is an important concern for many of our guests”.
The Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim is financed not only by revenue from the halls of residence, refectories and cafeterias, but also by grants from the state of Baden-Württemberg and semester fees. This contribution is comparatively favourable for students in the Tübingen-Hohenheim university region. It is currently around €56 per semester. The national average for students is around €78 as a student union fee.
