Closing times at the turn of the year 2025/26

Winterpause

The Studierendenwerk is taking a short winter break starting on 19 December. We wish you all happy holidays and a great start to the year 2026!

Our gastronomic facilities – cafeterias and dining halls – will be closed from Monday, 22. December 2025, through Tuesday, 6. January 2026. Starting Wednesday, 7. January 2026, we will welcome you back during our regular opening hours.

The BAföG InfoPoints and the Office for Educational Support, the residence hall administrations, the psychotherapeutic counseling center, and the daycare centers operate with different opening and consultation hours during this period:

BAföG

The BAföG Office at Listplatz in Reutlingen, the International BAföG Office on Bismarckstraße in Reutlingen, as well as the BAföG InfoPoints in Tübingen and Hohenheim, will be closed from Monday, 22 December 2025, through Friday, 9 January 2026. The team will be available again starting Monday, 12 January 2026.

Residence Hall Administrations

The residence hall administrations in Tübingen and Hohenheim will be closed starting Monday, 22 December 2025. Staff will be available again from 7 January 2026.

Psychotherapeutic Counseling Center

The counseling center will be closed from Monday, 22 December 2025, through 31 December 2025. Regular registration times will resume on 2 January 2026.

Daycare Centers

The daycare centers in Tübingen and Hohenheim will be closed starting Monday, 22 December 2025. Both facilities will reopen on 5 January 2026.

Statement on our snack vending machines

Over the last few days, the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim has received a lot of feedback about the snack vending machines in Tübingen. One repeated request was for a larger selection of meat-free and healthier alternatives.

We take this feedback very seriously and are already in close dialogue with our partner, the Sweet Oasis. The Studierendenwerk bears full responsibility for the current range, while the Süße Oase merely implements our specifications as a service provider. We are therefore surprised at the sometimes critical tone towards our partner.

Philipp Mang, press spokesperson for the Studierendenwerk, explains: ‘We welcome constructive suggestions and dialogue on the further development of our vending machine range. Respectful interaction with all parties involved is particularly important to us. We firmly reject unobjective and derogatory comments.’

Students are cordially invited to submit their suggestions for improvement. Suggestions can be sent by email to automaten [at] sw-tuebingen-hohenheim [dot] de. The Studierendenwerk will review these in collaboration with the Sweet Oasis and evaluate possible adjustments.

It’s easy: pay with your student ID or refectory card AND show the cashier your mystuwe app – and you will receive the respective product at the special price.

Please note: The offers are only valid in Tübingen cafeterias and can only be redeemed once per purchase. Cannot be combined with other vouchers or discounts. Only while stocks last. Not valid for EC payments.

Important info on cash-free upgrading

Many direct banks (such as ING, DKB, etc.) will no longer issue their customers with giro cards from 1.7.2023, as the provider Mastercard is discontinuing the Maestro payment system worldwide. So-called debit cards will then be used as an alternative.

This decision also has far-reaching effects on the Studierendenwerk’s payment transactions. Please note that our topping up stations do not support debit or credit cards! In these cases, it will only be possible to revalue your student ID or refectory card during opening hours at the payment terminals/checkouts in the cafeterias and refectories or via Autoload.

Closing times over the turn of the year 2022/2023

The Studierendenwerk is saying goodbye to you for a short winter break. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2023!

In the last week of lectures from 19 December 2022, our Tübingen cafeterias in the valley will be open for you as follows:

Clubhaus: 08:00 am – 02:00 pm; Unibibliothek: 10:00 am – 05:00 pm; Neuphilologicum and Theologicum: 09:30 am – 02:00 pm.

All catering facilities (cafeterias and dining halls) of the Studierendenwerk will be closed from Friday, 23 December 2022, up to and including Friday, 6 January 2023. From Monday, 9 January 2023, the usual opening hours will apply again.

There are different regulations for the BAföG InfoPoints and the Office for Student Financial Aid, the residence administrations, the psychotherapeutic counselling centre and the day care centres:

BAföG

The BAföG Office at Listplatz in Reutlingen and the International BAföG Office in Bismarckstraße in Reutlingen will be closed from Thursday, 22 December 2022 to Friday, 6 January 2023 inclusive. The team will be available again from Monday, 9 January 2023.

The Bafög-InfoPoint at Keplerstraße 2 (Tübingen) will be closed from Thursday 22 December 2022 until Monday 09 January 2023. The Hohenheim BAföG-InfoPoint will close from Wednesday 21 December 2022 until Friday 06 January 2023 and will reopen for you on 09 January 2023.

Residence administrations

The dormitory administrations in Tübingen and Hohenheim will be closed from Friday, 23 December 2022. The administration in Tübingen will be open again on 2 January 2023, and the staff in Hohenheim will be open again on 9 January 2023.

Psychotherapeutic Counselling Centre

The Counselling Centre will be closed from Friday, 23 December 2022 until Sunday, 01 January 2023. From 02 January 2023, the usual registration times will apply again.

Day care centres

The day care centres in Tübingen and Hohenheim will be closed from Friday, 23 December 2022 until Sunday, 01 January 2023.

Bring us back!

Since we stopped using disposable packaging and paper cups, we have had to deal with a massive loss of dishes in our cafeterias. Therefore, from now on, we ask for more careful returns!

We know that everyday student life can sometimes be hectic. In stressful phases, a break is all the more important. We invite you to spend this time CONSCIOUSLY with a hot cup of coffee in our cafeterias. It’s healthier for you and – by not using to-go paper cups – better for the environment.

We offer a variety of hot drinks in porcelain cups in our facilities. And if, for once, it has to be “to-go”: Just bring a reusable cup from home!

In consideration of the financial situation of many students, the Studierendenwerk does not currently charge a deposit on the dishes that are handed out. It is therefore all the more incomprehensible to us that many cups and mugs do NOT find their way back into our facilities.

Please be a little more careful in the future and do not just leave the dishes randomly on campus. Instead, bring them back to the respective facility from which you received them.

Reutlingen refectory renovation

+++ Update: Opening postponed by one week to 07.03.2022

Reutlingen refectory renovation:
Temporary facility expected to open on February 28, 2022

The renovation of the refectory and cafeteria on the campus of Reutlingen University will start in March 2022 for an expected 3 years. The temporary facility in the old sports hall will go into operation on February 28, 2022.

The first construction work for the renovation of the refectory will start in March. The renovation is expected to take 3 years. During this time, students and employees of Reutlingen University will be able to eat lunch in the temporary refectory in the old sports and swimming hall. For the time being, the last day of operation in the Reutlingen refectory will be Friday, January 28, 2022.

“It was important to the Studierendenwerk to offer guests a good alternative even during the renovation” explains Oliver Schill, Managing Director of the Studierendenwerk Tübingen-Hohenheim “Therefore, we are pleased to continue to offer a varied range of meals in the old sports hall. We hope that students and university employees will quickly get used to the new premises.”

The former sports hall is located on campus in Building 11 and is within a short walking distance of the current dining hall building. It has been undergoing extensive renovations for some time now, with electricity and technology being completely reinstalled. The Studierendenwerk uses the hall to serve up to 1,200 meals. In the new temporary building, there will be two dining areas on two levels with seating for about 450 people. The current opening hours will remain in the same way. There will also be no significant changes to the food on offer.

It is expected that the renovation will be completed by the winter semester of 2025 and that the “new” Reutlingen cafeteria will resume operations.
