Since June 2023, the Studierendenwerk has been offering open consultation hours at the Psychotherapeutic Counselling Centre, where a maximum 25-minute consultation is possible without prior registration. This service has been extremely popular with students so far. In the first quarter of 2024 alone, there were more than 40 of these short-term counselling sessions – more than in the last two quarters of the previous year combined.
The Studierendenwerk has therefore decided to further expand this service for the summer semester 2024. From now on, the open consultation hour will take place every Tuesday from 12:30 to 15:00. Up to five students can now have a free counselling session here. This means that the number of available time slots has almost doubled.
Furthermore, interested students should come to the counselling centre a quarter of an hour before start(i.e. between 12:15 and 12:30) and register for the open consultation hour at the secretary’s office. This helps us to organise the consultation hours on the day in question. We have compiled further information on open consultation hours here.
Did you memorise the material perfectly the evening before, but then suddenly find your head and paper blank during the exam? It happens again and again that knowledge in stressful situations can suddenly no longer be recalled. This is where we want to help. In December, we are therefore organising another workshop on exam anxiety and presentation stress.
That’s the point:
Many people feel uncomfortable and sometimes anxious in performance situations such as exams or presentations. To a certain extent, this is normal and is linked to the desire to perform well and receive positive feedback. However, above a certain level of nervousness and tension, performance can suffer (quite apart from the discomfort) and it is then often no longer possible to achieve a performance commensurate with one’s abilities. In extreme cases, when anxiety and stress are very high, performance can even collapse completely (blackout).
